Japanese Giant Salamander's Reference Room

オオサンショウウオについて学ぼう

日南町では、オオサンショウウオのことを愛称で『ハンザケ』と呼びます。ここには、ハンザケの生態や骨格標本、地元でハンザケの保護活動に取り組む「多里はんざけを守る会」の活動の記録などが展示されています。

ハンザケは国の特別天然記念物に指定されており、一般の方は姿を見つけても触ることができません。地元では、希少なハンザケ、さらにハンザケの生息環境を守るために、保護と観光を両立させていく計画を現在検討中です。計画がまとまり次第、こちらのページでもご案内します。

Japanese Giant Salamander's Reference Room

We call the japanese giant salamander "Hanzake".
In this reference room you can see the Hanzake's ecology, skeletal specimens, and a record of its activities in Nichinan-twon to protect it.
Hanzake is designated as a special natural monument of Japan.Therefore, ordinary people should not touch it.
But, we believe in protecting the Hanzake's habitat. For that purpose, it is necessary to balance protection and tourism of Hanzake.
